Put Your Best Foot Forward: Auditions

Course Description: At BATCO we often see very talented young performers who struggle showcasing their best self in front of people they do not know. After all, acting and auditioning are two different beasts. This class is for students who are interested in learning how to best present themselves in an audition, covering everything from etiquette to how to pick material. Aligned with our BATCO Mentor Series, students will have the opportunity to work with touring Broadway professionals and get their special insight on what life is like as a working actor. Each students will walk away with audition ready materials for singing and acting, the knowledge to navigate a dance call, a headshot and resume and the confidence to nail auditions.
Script Analysis & Character Development

Course Description: The purpose of this class is to teach a systematic approach to script analysis to help actors and directors approach their material with all the necessary tools to vividly and truly play the story they aim to share. The course will include two written assignments. A critical essay of a play read in class or seen as part of the course curriculum. The course will include three viewings of live performances. By the end of the course we should have a thorough proposal of the play that includes ideas for all production elements.This course is designed to be followed by a production course that culminates in a fully mounted student production of a play in a 14 week rehearsal period the following semester.
