Looking Back and Looking Forward

Dear Friends,

This year has been one to remember.

We wanted to share some of our personal highlights from 2019 and thank you, our fabulous SFBATCO community, for making authentic, affordable Bay Area theatre possible, and helping us inspire and train the next generation of talent through our youth training programs.

As co-founders of SFBATCO celebrating our 5th year, we are so grateful to all of you for helping us get here. You've supported us throughout and 2019 was no exception. We worked with some amazing artists, students, and theatre partners, sang with our friends from the cast of SF's Hamilton for a fundraiser hosted by our dedicated Board, celebrated awards, and even had SFBATCO day!

  • On Dec 27, over 75 of our closest SFBATCO fam gathered to end the year at Ocean Ale House for Tap Takeover. 11 SFBATCO singers took the stage and tore it up with holiday favorites from “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve” to classics like “Feelin’ Good”. We reigned in the end of a decade with incredible triumph and love, raising thousands for out programs.

  • I loved having the opportunity to produce so many stories from diverse perspectives, like The Crooked Room, West Side Story, and Death and the Artist.

  • And, it was such an honor and thrill to win three awards for I, Too, Sing America at the Theatre Bay Area (TBA) awards.

  • We couldn't bring authentic and award-winning shows to life without your generosity.

Marcelo -

  • Stepping out at every performance of I, Too, Sing America and seeing the faces of the audience waiting for us - what support!

  • Holding for applause after "Gee Officer Krupkee" during West Side Story and being able to share that moment with my younger cast mates - feeling the energy flood the stage was something else.

  • During opening night of Death and the Artist we were presented with our own SFBATCO Day from the Mayor of San Francisco London Breed, as presented by Neighborhood Services Liaison De’Anthony Jones.... And closing night was such a moving experience - emotionally and physically. The hard work and passion was palpable as the final guests left the building. Then, we had to tear down the entire set so we could rehearse for I, Too, Sing America for the following nights performance at the TBA awards. As they say, that’s show biz!

In 2020 we're looking forward to bringing some homegrown talent to the stage (all we can say for now is Tosh!), reprising I, Too, Sing America in the fall, and spreading the word about SFBATCO so we can grow our impact.

Thanks for five years of memories and here's to making more in 2020!

With love to you and yours this coming year,

Rodney & Marcelo
