Fundraising Apprentice Job Description
The Fundraising Apprentice is a part-time, temporary position through December 2025 that will support engagement efforts with SFBATCO’s donor community through event planning, fundraising campaigns, and donor stewardship activities. The ideal candidate is aligned with the mission and values of the organization and eager to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit development. The Fundraising Apprentice will work closely with the Director of Development & Marketing to contribute to fundraising, communications, and donor relations initiatives that sustain and grow SFBATCO’s impact.
Ideal candidates are motivated, detail-oriented, organized, collaborative, and excited to learn about arts fundraising.
Employment Type: Part-time, temporary (through December 2025)
Compensation: $25/hour, 20–25 hours per week
Status: Non-exempt
Location: Hybrid — primarily remote with flexible hours; must be based in San Francisco and available for in-person meetings and events as needed
As this position is funded by the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD), applicants must be based in San Francisco, with proof of San Francisco residency. This residency requirement is in accordance with the funding requirements of the OEWD.
Key Responsibilities
Annual Gala – Moonlit Masquerade (November 1)
Assist with event planning logistics, including coordinating vendor communications and tracking deadlines
Support development of event materials such as invitations, programs, and signage
Help manage ticket sales and guest lists
Coordinate volunteer assignments and onsite event support
Provide day-of-event assistance, including setup, guest check-in, and troubleshooting
Assist with pre-event and post-event communications and data entry
Curtain Up Club – Recurring Gift Program
Support outreach to current recurring donors through personalized communications and updates
Assist in developing and expanding member benefits, and help with benefit fulfillment
Help track monthly donations and maintain accurate donor records
Collaborate on creative ideas to engage and grow the recurring gift community
Seasonal Fundraising Appeals
Assist in drafting and editing fundraising appeal messaging for email and print
Help coordinate appeal distribution and follow-up communications
Organize and manage donor and prospect mailing and email lists for appeals
Support tracking of donor responses and campaign results
Contribute to brainstorming sessions for campaign strategies and engagement
Donor Reporting & Research
Prepare donor reports to track fundraising progress, segment appeals for targeted outreach, and identify potential for increased giving
Conduct prospect research to identify potential new donors and funding opportunities
Assist with data management, including updating and cleaning donor databases
Donor Cultivation & Stewardship
Support personalized outreach to donors via calls, emails, and handwritten notes
Help organize small donor appreciation events and engagement activities
Maintain records of donor interactions and preferences to inform ongoing relationship building
Qualifications
Passion for the arts and nonprofit fundraising
Strong organizational and communication skills
Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience or interest in project planning is a plus
Comfortable using databases, spreadsheets, and email marketing tools (experience with CRM systems a plus)
Eagerness to learn and contribute in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
