SFGMC’s Voices Rising

The San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus and SFBATCO partnered with Tony Award-nominated Broadway composer Andrew Lippa (The Addams Family, Harvey Milk), his curated selection of 13 composers, and an extraordinarily diverse group of voices for the world premiere of "Songs of the Phoenix” on April 10, 2022.

We were thrilled to be involved in this amazing production. We choreographed and danced in 4 pieces alongside 275 singers and also wrote the narration will be performed by SFBATCO artists. It was an HONOR to get to perform at the Davies Symphony Hall.

Forward Together: Celebrating Black Joy in the Performing Arts

This very special James Lick Middle School community event will showcase Black Joy in the performing arts. With so much chaos and uncertainty in our world--a global health pandemic, and civil unrest-- joy becomes an essential component of our active resistance. Joy does not negate pain; it makes space for healing. As a school community and as part of the larger San Francisco Bay Area, we have a strong legacy of resistance. Because of this legacy, we are dedicated to moving forward in meaningful solidarity, together. Forward Together: Celebrating Black Joy in the Performing Arts.

A Community Conversation hosted by Whitnee Garrett-Walker and Keith Carames. Rodney and Marcelo will be featured on the panel.

Bridging Communities Through Art & Culture

The San Francisco Mayor’s Office invited SFBATCO to send in a virtual performance of “I, Too, Sing America” for a special event, entitled Joint Celebration of Black History Month and Lunar New Year. Thank you to Mayor London Breed, APA Heritage Foundation, and SF Human Rights Commission for having us!

We were honored to share an excerpt of “I, Too, Sing America” which included a part of our Opening number, Riding the Subway is an Adventure, and In Daddy’s Arms.
